Fabulous FLAM flamingos fabricated freehand by Laurel.
Thank you for following our link. We love you.
This was the year the children got vaccinations and booster shots and we all began to go out and about doing things.
Asher just turned five and had a proper birthday party for the first time. We love the way he gets the family dance parties going. He takes hip-hop class at Dance-a-Vision, run by Bay Area luminary Carla Service. He reads storybooks to us as often as we read to him and he does all the voices. He loves playing Beasts of Balance and Mantis, but most of all he loves playing with his favorite playmate…
Fenton will soon be 11. His interests include board games (his favorite genre of literature is rules documents) and building activities, be they Lego or Minecraft. We love the way he fills the house with piano and clarinet music. Fenton is growing independent: he walks himself to the bus stop in the morning and in the afternoon he sometimes lets himself in with a key when there’s nobody home. Fenton and his best friend Niko spend long days horsing around, often walking into town to buy a muffin at the little market. He loves to play chess and One Night Ultimate Werewolf, and he has a doggedly inquisitive streak which he gets from his mother…
Laurel is still working on the garden, and comes inside with roses in her cheeks, covered in dirt and sweat, after a day communing with the plants. Laurel joined a group of avid volunteers restoring East Bay watershed by replacing invasives with native plants. If she has extra time, she looks forward to taking lace making workshops at Lacis Lace & Textile Museum in Berkeley, and has resolved to learn to knit in 2023 under the tutelage of master knitter Granny B (AKA Myles’s mom). Laurel enjoys working out with her awesome trainer and playing D&D where the DM is…
Myles writes these updates, which aren’t very long, and this year published a blog post on Medium about his experience playing Jeopardy!, which was. I attended my first ever Iyengar yoga retreat and devised a site-specific walkabout puzzle game in Berkeley to welcome back the return of the Equinox Party. I’ve read 20 books this year and the best one was “Born a Crime” by Trevor Noah. I love to read outside, and I also love to go outside and take a walk with family or to catch up with a friend - maybe you, in the new year.
Together in 2022 we took trips to see family in Humboldt and otter families in Moss Landing. We did escape games: Ghost Patrol in Emeryville is a don’t-miss. Together we watch Lego Master and Task Master and rough house on the couch and play board games at the dinner table and at Victory Point Cafe. We are grateful for friends and family and wish everyone a holiday season full of peace and joy.
